24hPoker Review
Established in 2002, 24hPoker has seen its fair share of growth in the last six years. Heavy TV advertising in 2004 and 2005 helped shape their player base into what it is today. Traffic during non-peak hours can be a little scarce at times, though. At the time of writing there are currently 1,800 players on 24hPoker, but that number can grow significantly at the right time of day. Part of what's inhibiting traffic growth is the passing of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act in the United States. Due to this law, United States based players are unable to legally play on 24hPoker! While its traffic is nowhere near other online poker giants, 24hPoker still has a lot to offer the poker community.
Being that it's a European based poker room, US currency is not listed as an option on this site. If you aren't used to other currencies this may prove to be somewhat confusing. Probably one of the most attractive feature this poker room has is its cross-platform compatibility. Poker players who are running Windows, Macintosh or Linux all have the ability to install 24hPoker's software. This type of accessibility is great because it allows for a broader variety of people to play.
In addition to the accessibility, 24hPoker has great looking software, depending on what you're looking for in an online poker room. If you enjoy software that is clean cut and straight to the point, 24hPoker is for you. If you prefer flashy graphics and features that are visually appealing, you may want to steer clear of this one. The lobby and table graphics are about as simple as you can get, while still offering your most basic features. When I say basic feature, I mean bare-bone basic features. Finding specific game types can be a drag because there are no filter options, for instance. There are no avatars or flashy graphics incorporated in the table screen, but to me this isn't important. One feature I do enjoy about this software is the separated text box displaying the game's action. Many poker rooms mash the action into the same window as the chat.
24hPoker is a great European poker room for tournament play. Their Tournament Schedule has a slew of different types of tournaments from your standard straight laced NL Holdem to Freezeouts and Rebuys. In addition they host a number of guaranteed tournaments each month, ensuring a plump prize pool for players to shoot for. More importantly, there are tournaments available for players of all sorts of stakes from the very low to very high. Players looking to pay absolutely nothing for a chance at some nice cash are in luck, because they host a ton of freerolls on 24hPoker!
Because 24hPoker does a lot of advertising on TV, there seems to be a fish-filled river flowing right onto the tables. This type of advertising gets out to the right kind of people. People who aren't particularly looking for online poker resources are great targets because they don't necessarily know the ins and outs of the game, giving regular players a chance at taking all their money! Since the traffic isn't all that great, the best times to encounter these fish would be during high-traffic peak hours.
I think the customer support is lacking a bit for 24hPoker. The only available contact option is via email, and generally takes several hours before a response is received. In order to compete with the customer support of other poker rooms it would be helpful if they provided phone support at the very least. One of the most popular support options catching a lot of buzz lately is Live Chat Support, and even that would boost 24hPoker's support rating a bit.
In conclusion, if you're looking for a simple European based online poker room that houses a lot of fish, 24hPoker is a great choice. It gets a big thumbs up from Mac and Linux users. It's also an awesome site for competition! Competing in their Tournament Leaderboard is also a great way to show other players what you're made of, and given the lower traffic amount the chances are higher you'll make the cut!
Each month, prizes will be given to the top 200 players on the 24hPoker Tournament Leaderboard. Leaderboard Points are awarded in the following fashion: (stake does not matter)
1st place = 7 points.
2nd place = 5 points.
3rd place = 4 points.
4th place = 3 points.
5th place = 2 poitns.
6th place = 1 points.
This way, low limit players have the same possibility as high limit players to get a high ranking on the Tournament Leaderboard.
The top 200 players every month will qualify to a €6,000 freeroll. The players that have qualified will automatically be registered for the tournament, which will be played 20:30 CET the first Thursday of every month.
