Bodog Poker Tournament Leaderboard Formula
The top 20% of the field earn points based on:
Points = 10 * (sqrt(N)/sqrt(R)) * (sqrt(sqrt(B))+0.2)
N = Number of players entered in the tournament.
R = Finish Rank of the player for the tournament.
B = Buy-in for the tournament. For tournaments that have a Point (PTS) buy-in, 1 Point is counted as $0.03.

Bodog is one of those sites that has it all. You will find anything from betting on sports, playing in any of their hundreds of casino games, placing bets on horses, and of course poker; it's a gambler's dream. Finding one website that offers all of this is pretty hard, but even harder to find one that still accepts US players. However, look no further than Bodog, because they still accept players from the United States!
Although Bodog made its name through it's sportsbook, their poker room has also become quite popular. Opened in 2004, their game selection, software, and player base has gone through tremendous changes throughout the years. You can find Hold'em, Omaha, Omaha 8, 7 Card Stud, 7 Card Stud 8, and 5 Card Stud. All of these offer no-limit, pot-limit, or limit with stakes ranging from $.05 - $.10 up to $10 - $20 for cash game play. You will find 6-max shorthanded, 9-player full ring, and heads up tables for all limits. There are almost always multiple tables running spread across all stakes, so finding a game isn't a problem.
Overall, Bodog isn't near the top of the list as far as traffic goes. Other online giants attract a larger player base, but Bodog is still in the top 5 pro-US rooms. During peak hours you will find around 6,500 players connected, which is more than enough to play a game of poker!
Traditionally, Bodog has not been known for holding popular tournaments, but that is slowly changing. This mainly due to one word, overlay. Bodog is known for hosting guarantees and not having enough players to surpass them. For example, their weekly $109 Sunday tournament has a $100,000 guaranteed prize pool which usually has around $20,000 extra to the prize pool!
Another reason their tournament schedule has become more popular is because of promotions such as their Tournament Leaderboard (TLB). Bodog's TLB covers all regular MTT's that they host, as long as it's public, and not a satellite, or a sit and go. Their TLB is broken down to weekly, monthly, and yearly, each awarding special prizes!
Bodog's weekly leaderboard starts every Monday at 12:00 am ET, and runs until Sunday at 11:59 PM ET. Your top 12 tournaments for the week are counted. If you happen to finish in the top 15, you will be in for some nice prizes.
1st place - Play David Williams, Evelyn Ng or Josh Arieh in a heads up Sit and Go freeroll for $1,000. If the pro wins, the pot continues to grow until a player wins all! (The pot's been as big as $16,000 in the past.)
2nd & 3rd place - 270 Tournament Credits
4th & 5th place - 110 Tournament Credits
6th to 10th place - 50 Tournament Credits
11th to 15th place - 25 Tournament Credits
The monthly TLB tracks your top 25 tournaments for the month, and also has some nice rewards.
1st place - Entry into the "Monthly TLB Winners' Players Choice Freeroll" in January 2009.
2nd place - 540 Tournament Credits
3rd to 5th place - 380 Tournament Credits
6th to 10th place - 110 Tournament Credits
11th to 20th place - 50 Tournament Credits
21st to 30th place - 25 Tournament Credits
The Players Choice freeroll could potentially be worth much more than you'd imagine. At the end of the year, the 12 players who qualified by winning the monthly TLB play in a 2 table 6-handed Sit and Go in where the top 2 players win a $12,000 Players Choice prize package! You could use this to play in the WSOP and win millions!
Bodog also tracks long term yearly points, which include your top 125 tournaments for the calendar year. The prizes change every year, and have not yet been announced for 2008.
So how do you earn points? Simply just play in as many MTTs on Bodog as you can handle and finish in the top 20% of the field. Bodog then uses its own formula to award points:
Points = 10 * (SQRT(N)/SQRT(R)) * (SQRT(SQRT(B))+0.2)
N = Number of players entered in the tournament.
R = Finish Rank of the player for the tournament.
B = Buy-in for the tournament. For tournaments that have a Point (PTS) buy-in, 1 Point is counted as $0.03.
As confusing as it may sound, it's pretty fair based on the field and buy-in. Just because you get lucky and take down a huge field, or because you play higher stakes than someone else, doesn't mean you'll make it on the leaderboard. It's designed to award consistency. For example, let's take a tournament with a $100 buy-in, 500 players, and you finish in 3rd. This would award you with 434.06 points. Take the same field and finish, but decrease the buy-in down to $20 and you still collect 298.83 points.
Bodog is one of the best rooms for someone in the US to play at. Actually, it's one of the best worldwide, but because they accept US players it should not be avoided by US players! Start playing at Bodog today and top their leaderboard!
