Everest Review
Everest Poker is a room many people haven't heard of. Though this room has seen steady growth over the years, it remains on a smaller scale than poker giants like PokerStars. Part of the reason contributing to their limited operation is due to the fact that they no longer accept wagers made by US residents. This is because the United States past a new legislation in November of 2006 which prevents credit card companies from collecting payments for bets made by players from the U.S. As a result, Everest Poker has suspended all real-money gaming business in the United States market.
Because its main focus is now Europe, Everest has done a great job keeping their software available for people of all nationalities. Players can choose from 16 different languages to run the software in, including English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Portuguese, Dutch, Danish, Swedish and Spanish! Aside from the supported languages, they've put together a high quality software package for their players, offering top notch graphics and awesome functionality!
Everest Poker is also a great site to start out on, because they offer a very low $5 minimum deposit rate. Most poker rooms require you to put up a lot more than a measly $5. All the major deposit options are made available for an easy transaction process, making it quicker than ever to get playing today! Once you get better, there will always be new players rolling in, looking to learn the ropes. Learning the ropes isn't free though, and players will gladly hand over their cash in games on Everest!
One of the biggest downsides to this poker room is the lower traffic level. Everest operates on their own, independent network. This means that you will only be playing against other players who have downloaded the Everest software. Many other poker rooms these days are recognizing the value in partnering up with other sites and networking all their players together. This provides a much broader base of players of all skill levels; all whom have different preferences, making the game variety strive as well.
Due to the lower traffic level, the games offered on Everest suffer a bit. They currently only offer the most popular poker variations, Texas Hold'em and Omaha. These two variations have been the only ones offered by Everest since they opened for business. It's been said that plans are in the works to add Seven Card Stud. I would assume the rumors are true because their software shows 7-Card Stud and 7-Card Stud Hi/Lo as being part of the package. As of right now, 7-Card Stud is non-functional and the tabs are greyed out and are unable to be clicked.
With lower traffic comes lower variation, and also minimal action. At the higher limits it can be difficult to find any opponents at all. Even at the $.25 stakes, you may only be able to find one table! This can vary depending on the stakes you're looking at and what time of day it is, but action can be quite scarce on Everest, regardless.
Everest has also made their poker room much more interesting with the addition of their Tournament Leaderboard Promotion! While Tournament Leaderboard Points (TLB points) have no redeemable value and can't be transferred or exchanged, Everest still dishes out prizes for their players' efforts. The only drawback is that they offer no real cash prizes and only award Summit Points, which are the equivalent to Frequent Player Points found on other poker rooms. The cool thing is that Everest Poker has three different leaderboards: Sit & Go High, Sit & Go Low, and MTT. They dish out hundreds of thousands of Summit Points weekly AND monthly to both SnG leaderboards, and monthly points to the MTT leaderboard players.
Here are the Summit Point totals awarded for the monthly MTT leaderboard:
1st 160,000
2nd 80,000
3rd 40,000
4th 20,000
5th 15,000
6th 15,000
7th 15,000
8th 15,000
9th 15,000
10th 15,000
You can earn TLB Points by playing in any Everest Poker Scheduled or Sit & Go Tournament except: Freerolls, Private Tournaments, Free Chip Play, and tournaments with Summit Point Prize pools. However, if you use Summit Points or Tournament Tokens to buy in to a real money tournament, you are still eligible to earn TLB points. Players will be awarded points for the Multi-Table Leaderboard if they play in any of the scheduled tournaments AND Sit & Go tournaments that have at least 30 players.
Everest has included a TLB point calculator which you can find here. This is a great tool that allows players to estimate the TLB Points awarded by a particular tournament. But for players who would rather do the math, here is the formula to figure out the awarded points for a particular tournament:
TLB Points = 9 * (sqrt(P)/sqrt(F)) * sqrt(sqrt(B))
P = Number of Players
F = Finishing Place
B = Buyin
The pot contribution (buyin) for rebuy tournaments is determined by dividing the sum of all entries, rebuys and add-ons by the number of registered players. When a tournament awards the same prize to multiple winners, such as satellites and direct entry tournaments, all winners are awarded the same number of TLB Points regardless of chip counts. For example, if the top three players in a tournament are all awarded a seat in another tournament, all players will be awarded TLB Points calculated for a third place finish.
Everest Poker is a great room that offers new players a chance to play cheaply, and veteran players to make a LOT of money. Their exceptional software teamed up with their planned upgrades will surely take advantage of this room's growth potential. And with the amount of Summit Points awarded for their leaderboards, it wouldn't hurt to try and soar for the top! So join Everest Poker today and dive into their leaderboard action!
