PKR Review

PKR Download review for more information on downloading and installing PKR.
PKR is quite the interesting poker room for a few reasons. For one, it’s an independent poker room, which is growing much more rare these days, as most online poker rooms are involved with a network of some sort. On top of that, however, is the fact that PKR is a 3D online poker room, making for quite the interesting experience. It has been described as “Texas Hold ‘Em meets The Sims” by WPT Poker. When you log on to PKR, you know you’re in for quite the original experience.
PKR is licensed by the Alderney Gambling Control Commission. This ensures that the games remain fair, keeping your money safe, so you can focus on playing and having a great time. Unfortunately, American players are currently unable to play on PKR, coinciding with gaming laws after UIGEA. Their player base is a bit on the small side, but you can bet that with their innovations, they’re sure to attract throngs of players in the near future.
However, the one thing that PKR currently lacks in is the cash game department. This can be expected, as they don’t have the player base that sites like Poker Stars and Full Tilt Poker have. In time, this can be expected to change. For the time being, you can find No Limit Hold ‘Em games upwards of $10/$20, Limit Hold ‘Em games upwards of $30/$60, and Pot Limit Omaha upwards of $10/$20. However, for now, all they have are No Limit Hold ‘Em, Limit Hold ‘Em, Pot Limit Omaha, and Limit Omaha. This should be expected to change in time, as with more players the demand will rise for various different games.
As with most small sites, PKR shines with tournaments rather than cash games. Despite the small site size and small player base, PKR has some truly interesting and innovative tournaments. PKR offers a great deal of guarantees, no matter the time of the day, which is very, very nice. They also offer a great deal of satellites to the upcoming 2008 World Series of Poker Main Event, and the 2008 APPT Manila event. They feature tournaments such as “The TV Showdown”, which is a $55 $20k Guaranteed tournament. At the final tables of these tournaments, they can be televised on SKY TV, which is quite the exciting proposition! PKR also has its own Sunday tournament, “The Sunday Classic.” It only costs $72.50 to play, and features a $25k prize pool.
PKR definitely takes care of their players in every aspect, including bonuses and promotions. They have an extremely solid first time deposit bonus of 100% up to $600, and several re-deposit bonuses, such as a 50% up to $250, and even a special 100% up to $2,000! PKR has their own PKR Points too, and unlike some poker rooms, you can have multiple uses with them! You can use them to buy into freerolls, as well as buying PKR themed merchandise, which includes clothing, playing cards, and poker literature. On top of that, if you’ve accrued a great deal of points, you can even buy into high stakes live tournaments!
PKR has their very own tournament leaderboard, and the rankings are calculated as such:
(Points for money finishing position + 2 points for participating) x (Entrants weighting factor) x (Buy-in weighting factor) x (Time weighting factor) = Ranking points per tournament. It should be noted however, that the time weighting factor isn’t used for the monthly rankings. For the monthly, it’s the same, except you omit the time weighting.
The values for the formula can be found in the tables at the bottom of the page.
For example, if you played in a $50 dollar tournament with 125 players, and won it, here’s how it would look. First, you would get 350 points for winning, plus your 2 points for playing, starting us off with 352 points. You would then multiply that by 2, because there is 125 players. That would bring us up to 704 points. You would then multiply that by three, because we played a $50 tournament, bringing us up to 1512 points. If this were counted for your monthly rankings, you would stop there. However, if you're counting prior than the current month, it would then differ because of the time weighting. For example, if you did this 7-8 weeks ago, you would then multiply your 1512 points by .5, bringing you down to 756 points. At first glance this seems a bit complicated as it’s a bit different from other leaderboard systems, but it works just fine.
The PKR monthly tournament leaderboard starts at 12:00 AM GMT on the 2nd of every month, and ends on the 1st of every month at 11:59 PM GMT.
PKR offers multiple benefits to those who grind it out every month playing tournaments. If you finish in the top 5 of the monthly leaderboard for tournaments, you not only gain respect, but you get free money. You get no strings attached money, and it is given as such:
1st place: $500
2nd place: $250
3rd place: $150
4th place: $100
5th place: $50
If that’s not enough, players who finish in the top 100 in the monthly tournament leaderboard get to play in a $1500 freeroll! Those who finish from 101-500 aren’t left out in the cold, as they get their own $1500 freeroll as well.
If you want to play on an up and coming poker room which takes great care of its players, definitely head on over to PKR!
